An exploration of Mathematics teacher code switching consistency and its manifestation in the assessment of learning.
Provisional project outline:
Code switching is practised in mathematics classrooms, policy environment in South Africa supports it, and research has shown that it can be harnessed as a tool for enhancing learning. My study intends to determine code switching consistency and inconsistencies by teachers as they teach mathematics multilingual classrooms. it also seeks to determine how the observed consistencies and inconsistencies manifests themselves in the assessment of learning.
