Instrumental Music Studies

Instrumental Music Studies 1 for BMus and BA/BSc

This includes the study of a major instrument, ensemble training (in the selected instrument), aural training and a paper on Music Literature. Syllabi for the various instruments are available from the Department of Music. The “instrument” includes classical voice.

Istrumental Music Studies-African Ensemble:

A new and exciting full credit course has been introduced in 2017 where students with no prior musical experience can join an African Music Ensemble. The year will focus on skills which include learning songs and dances from South Africa, the marimba, various drumming styles, the mbira and other African instruments. Register for IMS African Ensemble!

All Ethnomusicology further training incorporates African music research with particular emphasis on South Africa.
