Admissions
In order to apply for any course in the Music Department, you will first need to apply successfully to Rhodes University.
Once accepted by Rhodes University, you can register for History and Appreciation of Music; Music, Health and the Brain; Sound Technology or Ethnomusicology whether you come from a musical background and play a musical instrument or not. Many students studying for degrees in other departments and faculties choose these subjects.
All students who wish to register for Instrumental Music Studies 1 will need to audition and write a music theory test. Please call Natasha Botha on 046 603 8489 to book an audition slot.
Students will be expected to play 2 pieces, take a short aural test and perform either a sight reading test or a quick study. If the student opts for the quick study, they need to collect it from the Department no more than 24 hours before their audition time.

In addition to this, all students wishing to take Instrumental Music Studies 1 or Music 1 will need to write a theory test.
