NRF Role Modeling Campaign
Date Released: Wed, 12 January 2011 16:12 +0200
NRF is looking for interested volunteers to participate in our role modeling campaign in Cape Town. SAASTA, a business unit of the NRF, will be conducting the campaign.
They are planning a role modelling campaign at Luhlaza High School, Khayelitsha for the 29th January 2011. We would like to have postdocs assist us in this campaign.
NRF is looking for a list of all the names, contact details and backgrounds (engineering, biotechnology, nanotechnology etc) of the interested parties so that they can have an idea of the sciences that they can showcase. This will also allow them to coordinate travel of the role models and other logistics.
Due to the large number of learners (approx. 600), NRF is planning on having 2 parallel sessions running at the same time and would require 5 role models in each of the sessions i.e. 10 role models in total. They would also would prefer that the learners in each session are exposed to the same sciences. In other words there should be 2 engineers, 2 biotechnologists etc so that 1 role model can visit one session and the other role model can speak at the other session.
Should anyone be interested, please contact Dr. Thandi Mgwebi directly and provide your name, surname, contact numbers, e-mail, broad research field and area of specialisation
Rhodes University STRONGLY encourages postdocs to contact Dr. Mgwebi and support the NRF initiative to promote science in South African High Schools!
Thanks for your help!
