Kit Magellan (Chair)

Kit received her PhD in Behavioural Ecology from the University of St Andrews in Scotland, shortly after which she escaped to a warmer climate. Here at Rhodes she has been studying a variety of freshwater fish. For her first postdoc fellowship she looked at the mating and aggressive behaviours of swordtails, followed by a project on the behaviour and ecology of a newly discovered South African fish, Galaxias ‘nebula’. She is now studying the effects of alien invasive species on indigenous fish, some of which are critically endangered. South Africa has some excellent aquatic ecosystems to work on – She knows because she spend much of her time standing in them!
