Mugdha received her PhD in Environmental Carcinogenesis from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in the USA in 2009. Her PhD topic was focused on effects of Green tea catechins in colorectal cancer, where she found out that drinking green tea regularly prevents cancer risk. She then joined the Number 1 institute for child cancer, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN, USA for her postdoc. In St. Jude’s she worked on role of transporters in hematopoietic stem cell differentiation after which she moved to beautiful Grahamstown Feb 2011. Here at Rhodes she has just joined the biochemistry department and is a part of BioBRU. She is currently working on cancer and Cancer stem cells. South Africa has a high mortality rate due to cancer. Cancer stem cell is relatively a new field, which opens a broad field for research. She also has a veterinary degree (B.V. Sc) from India and loves animals.
