Susan Van Dyk (Chair)
After completing a BA (LLM) at the University of Stellenbosch and working for several years, first as a public prosecutor and then in Labour Relations, Susan decided to start studying science. Thus in 2002, she commenced with a BSc which culminated in a PhD in Biochemistry. Her specific project involves the study and characterisation of exopolysaccharide production in Bacillus licheniformis and its role in entrapment of enzymes to form a multi-enzyme complex for degradation of carbohydrate substrates. Further interests include the synergy between carbohydrate degrading enzymes for the bioconversion of lignocellulose biomass for bioethanol production; as well as the use of enzymes for the detection of pesticides in water.
