Higher Education, Academic Communities, and the Intellectual Virtues

Because Higher Education (HE) brings members of academic communities in direct contact with students, the reflective HE student is in an excellent position for developing two important intellectual virtues, confidence and humility. I argue that science and humanities teaching can fulfil this role in very different ways.
