PhD in History


Dr. Etienne Lock is an Andrew W. Mellon post-doc fellow. He received his PhD in History from Charles-de-Gaulle University, Lille (France) in 2014. 

In the second semester Dr. Lock will teach a course titled: "Africa since 1945" that will with reference to the main actors explore how some events, from the Bandung conference to the current challenges faced by African states, have had an impact on the history of Africa."


His research interests include Security issues in African states; Religions and conflicts; African identity; African intellectuals; and Secularism in Africa. He is conducting post-doctoral research on the topic: Security in Nigeria and Cameroon through the concepts of identity, religion and policy: a historical approach.
