Biographical

Thomas was born and raised in Venda in the Limpopo Province of South Africa. He studied at the Department of Geosciences at the University of the Witwatersrand and graduated with an Honours degree in Geology in 2004. He is currently holding the position of Chief Geologist at BHP Billiton Wessels Mine, having accrued over 5 years' experience in the manganese business. He is also working on his MSc project at Rhodes University on the parallel characterization of the upper and lower manganese ore-layers (“seams”) at Wessels Mine, Kalahari Manganese Field, with emphasis on their comparative mineralogy, mineral chemistry and physical characteristics. He is married and a father of two sons, 5 and 8 years old. Thomas is also a Pastor of a local church in the city of Kuruman where he also resides with his family.

A comparative study of the mineralogical, geochemical and physical attributes between the lower and upper manganese ore-bodies at Wessels Mine, Northern Cape Province, South Africa.
