Ethical Standards

All institutions which sponsor research take steps to ensure that research is carried out according to internationally accepted ethical standards. Rhodes University has established the Ethical Standards Committee to oversee the process. The committee publishes a summary booklet which can be seen on its website https://www.ru.ac.za/research/research/ethics

In the Psychology Department, the Research Projects Ethics Review Committee (RPERC) acts on behalf of the Ethical Standards Committee to review the ethical aspects of all research proposals submitted to it. Those submitting proposals must also submit a completed Ethical Standards Research Protocol which is a checklist which directs attention to such matters as confidentiality, security of data and informed consent.
