Psychology II
This is a full year course, in which the following are generally taught: Research Methods - gaining an understanding about the manner in which knowledge is produced and evaluated in the Social Sciences and becoming familiar with the logic and processes of conducting psychological research;Personality – a critical examination of traditional and contextual views of human development through the study of various approaches to personality formation and personal growth; Psychopathology which provides the student with the necessary basic knowledge and working understanding of psychopathology as well as descriptive phenomenology of psychological disorders; Developmental Psychology, a deconstructionist approach to issues of growth and change in South Africa; Social Psychology which seeks to define, describe, and identify various social psychology concepts and then to identify and apply these terms and concepts in our understanding of other people’s behaviour; an introduction to a wide range of topics in gender studies and psychology's role in constructing and (re)constructing gender; Psychology and Gender, Biological and Neuropsychology Psychology which aims to promote understanding of the biological functioning of the human being in relation to behaviour such as cognitive and emotional functions, language, wakefulness and sleep, stress and health, psychological (such as mood disorders, autism, anxiety, ADHD) and neurological disorders (such as brain tumours, head injuries and epilepsy).
