Prof. Tamara Shefer
Tamara Shefer is professor of Women’s and Gender Studies and Psychology at the University of the Western Cape. She has researched and published widely in the areas of (hetero)sexual relationships, HIV/AIDS, gender and sexual identities and practices, masculinities, politics of knowledge production, authorship and higher education, and critical and feminist psychology. She has been co-editor on four academic books, the most recent being From Boys to Men (2007) and The Gender of Psychology (2006), and written two popular texts, Teaching Equality and No turning back: Fighting for gender equality in the unions (co-writer). Her most recent co-edited book is in press with the HSRC entitled Books and/or babies: pregnancy and young parenting in schools. Outside of the academy, she has worked on evaluation and policy research and development, and been active in training and capacity development, including gender mainstreaming for NGOs and government departments.
