Research Report 2005

Feminism & Psychology
During 2005, 12 staff (out of a total of 16) produced research products. Two individuals deserve special mentioning. Professor DJA Edwards had a particularly productive year during which he published nine articles, while Professor CR Stones continued his active work as a founding editorial board member of the Indo-Pacific Journal of Phenomenology. In general, the research profile displays a healthy spread across the full range of staff. Moreover, several relatively junior staff members were also productive, either in terms of producing publications or presenting papers at national and international conferences.
Regarding the publications, the content areas were very diverse, ranging from community psychology, educational technology, history of psychology, HIV/AIDS, indigenous healing, neuro-psychology, psychometrics, psychopathology, psychotherapy through to sport injuries and terrorism.
Professors from three universities spent some time in the department as distinguished visitors. They were Professor Cromby (University of Loughborough, England), Staeuble (Free University Berlin, Germany), and Olivier (Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.
The number of postgraduate students continued to be high, with the Honours class comprising 27 students, while the various Master’s degree programmes had a total of 14 students. Overall, given high teaching loads and large postgraduate commitments, the Departmental profile reflects an active research endeavour on the part of its staff members.
