Rhodes Declares Against Corruption and Pledges Support of Corruption Watch

Corruption Watch is an independent civil society body recently established to lead the fight against corruption.
Its mission is to build a more engaged and active civil society in South Africa. Corruption Watch gathers, analyses and shares information on corruption in South Africa.
Key governance structures of Rhodes University have committed to supporting Corruption Watch and to making a public declaration by signing the Pledge against corruption. This will happen at the Public Lecture and Launch. Following a Public Lecture by Dr David Lewis, Executive Director of Corruption Watch, representatives of the key bodies at Rhodes and key officials - the University Council, Senate, the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellors, the Registrars, the Chair of the Deans Forum, the trade unions Nehawu and Nteu, the SRC, Sports Administration - will sign the Pledge against corruption.
There will also be an opportunity for University Faculty and Department representatives, local education and public institutions, and student leaders (House Committee officials, sub-wardens, and Clubs and Societies’ members) to sign the Pledge.
The general Rhodes community and visitors to the University will be invited to sign a Corruption Watch Pledge book that will be available for this purpose.
All Rhodians are urged to attend and participate in the Corruption Watch Public Lecture and the Pledge signing ceremony against corruption.

Psychology and Social Change Award

In 2008, the Psychology Department at Rhodes University initiated the ‘Psychology and Social Change Project’ in which prominent members of the psychology community in South Africa are honoured for their contribution to social change in the country.
The aims of the project are to:
? Acknowledge people who have gone beyond the traditional bounds of the discipline and contributed, through intellectual, professional and personal labour, to social change in South Africa
? Expose students to these kinds of role models within psychology
? Think deeply about the role of psychology in understanding as well facilitating social change.
