The RUMEP programme

About the project

RUMEP is a public benefit organization (PBO) linked to Rhodes University with the specific aim of improving the quality of mathematic teaching and learning mainly in the deep rural areas of the Eastern Cape. 

The main focus is in-service professional development and curiculum development.

 

RUMEP is engaged in the following programmes:

1. Accredited Course

    Bachelor of Education(in-service) Mathematics Education degree (teachers participate consciously and creatively in their own professional development).

 

2. Collegial Cluster Project

   Active teacher communities work collaboratively to improve their own classroom practice.

 

3. MathsNet Communications Project

   Provides teachers with an ooprotunity to improve their computer skills and to work together on professional development projects of mutual interest.

 

4. Focused Intervention Projects 

   Funder initiated projects to support specialized mathematics teaching and learning for teachers and officials from the Department of Education.

 

5. Materials Development and Research

   Materials developed by RUMEP to support new teaching strategies and methodologies
