Lilian Britten House

Res function
A post-grad res until 2008, the current LB residents have been able to start from scratch, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere in the res.
LB is part of St Mary’s Hall, and on any sunny weekend you are likely to find the girls enjoying the sun on our beautiful lawns, either catching up on assignments or just enjoying the fresh Grahamstown air.
The res is currently being run by a house committee consisting of five girls, under the leadership of our two sub-wardens and warden, Ms Zuki Kota. The theme for 2009 is ‘The Phoenix: "out of the ashes of the old will rise a new ..."’ The whole house has embraced this theme and already the ladies of LB have made a name for themselves on campus, especially in the inter-res sports league.
The house consists of 23 rooms, 8 of which are doubles, as well as a ten-man annex, Founder’s Lodge. Each room is equipped with a bed, cupboard, bedside table, desk and chair, desk lamp, bookcase, chest of drawers, hand basin and wall heater. Each room also has a resnet connection point, which can be used to access the internet right from your own room.
There are two common rooms in LB, both equipped with a TV, and DSTV in the larger common room.
The university provides bed linen, with weekly changes, but students are welcome to bring their own. The res has a fully equipped laundry area with automatic
washing machines and tumble driers as well as washing lines both inside and outside.
The ladies of LB are a group of fantastic individuals, involved in all facets of university life and the friendships created already this year will be sure to last a lifetime.
