Olive Schreiner House

Olive Schreiner House is the largest residence in St Mary Hall and consists of 75 spacious single and 6 double rooms. It is situated next to the library and is connected to John Kotze House by a beautiful circular garden filled with the sound of birds and the soft breeze blowing through the surrounding trees.
The building itself is built around a quad. This area is utilised fully during the year as the students have several of their residence functions here. It is connected to the common room by several sliding doors, making it an excellent venue for functions during winter and summer.
The common room area consists of both a large room and a small room which houses two television sets, DSTV, video recorders and DVD players. It is furnished with lovely 2-seater and 1-seater lounge chairs, making slipping away from studying for a few minutes a lovely temptation.
All the student rooms are furnished with a bed, lockable cupboard, bedside table, table, student chair, book case, chest of drawers, wall heater and a bedside lamp. Each room also has a fitted handbasin with running cold water and is fully carpeted. The university also provides linen, but the students are welcome to bring their own. In the case of students using university linen a housekeeping service is supplied whereby the housekeeper changes linen weekly at specified times.
All the student rooms have resnet connection points which can be accessed by the students via the resnet representative during the first few weeks of term.
Each residence has completely fitted laundry areas with tumble driers and automatic washing machines. You will also find a residence vacuum cleaner close to the linen room for your personal use to keep your rooms tidy. Housekeeping staff keep public areas such as passages, common rooms and ablution blocks clean, but the individual student rooms would need be cleaned by the student.
Olive Schreiner is a building waiting to be filled with vibrant, energetic energy - we are waiting for you!
