Warden's Welcome to LB
A very warm welcome to all the new and returning ladies of Lilian Britten House. We do hope your stay here is a memorable one.
Originally the University’s first sanatorium, Lilian Britten (LB) house was named after a lecturer in the department of Botany. The main house consists of 23 rooms of which 8 are double rooms, with a 10 person annex across the road. The warden is Ms Natisha Dukhi and there are three sub wardens: Kebaabetswe Tlhoaele and Priyanka Chotai in the main house, with Krupa Samji residing in the annex. The house comm. consists of seven energetic ladies that are involved in community engagement, sport, academic and social aspects of res life.
LB is the smallest of the four houses of St Mary Hall and is run with community spirit in mind, as we aim to create a dynamic, student-centered and balanced community that allows individuals to achieve their full potential and become what they want to be and what society needs. LB is centrally located and within walking distance of the university library, pool, theatre, sporting fields, as well as the greater Grahamstown community and town.
You will discover there are endless opportunities that await you here at LB and the St Mary family. The Hall is home to 255 ladies and provides a stable environment where individuals may study and develop in a relaxed, friendly and scholarly atmosphere. The Hall offers a unique opportunity for individuals to become actively involved in Hall life and, at the same time, allows for the subtle variations that make life in the House and Hall a very individual experience.
We do hope that you will take full advantage of everything that Lilian Britten House and St Mary Hall has to offer and make the most of your university experience.
Best wishes
Warden, Subwardens and House Comm. 2013
