Fun with Maths
2013
This year we will again be contributing exciting, educational and fun resources to Grocotts on the UKUFUNDA page. The festure will be under the UKUFUNDA banner and is entitled "Make It Count". We will have periodic series throughout the year in April, June/July and October.
Our first series starts on Tuesday 9th April and continues for 4 weeks until the 30th April. Still focussing on younger children from pre-school until about Grade 5, we will have a full page spread and will showcase news from the mathematical community who are working with this age group in Grahamstown.
We will also offer themed resources that you and your family can do with your younger children. Our first theme is “Maths is all around us” and explores how we use maths in our everyday lives.
Electronic versions of the feature will be available from this page on the Friday following publication. For example 9th April edition will be available on 12th April.
April Series: Maths is all around us
- 9th April: Recipe and cooking
- 16th April: Sharing and Fractions
- 23rd April: Eating out and Shopping
- 30th April: Maths Club initiative
in 2012, we introduced a weekly numeracy ‘Fun with Maths’ page onto the exisitng ‘Ukufunda’ section in the local Grahamstown newspaper Grocotts Mail.
The aim of this page is to get learners, parents and teachers to engage learners with various numeracy concepts in a fun way that differs from traditional teaching approaches.
The series kicked off with an Grocotts interview with Prof Graven and Debbie Stott on the 5th June 2012 and ran until November 2012.
