Gongqa Nombulelo

My name is Nombulelo Gongqa, I grew up in Grahamstown and I started at Rhodes in 2012. Initially I started off doing commerce but that did not go too well. I then moved into humanities, doing a degree in BSocSci. I majored in Industrial Psychology and Politics. In 2016, I did my honours in Industrial Psychology, this  subject gave me a lot of insight on how human labour fits into the industry and what can be to strengthen the relationship between people and the workplace. However I felt like I needed more when it comes to labour and the relations it has with industry. I moved into doing masters in industrial sociology this current year. I am hoping to complete research on the topic, “trade union responses to xenophobia”. I hope to gain different skills that will lead me to working both for the South African government while changing certain patterns of labour in the South African industry. I would love to one day end in the African Union pushing for more Pan Africanism.
