Dr Luis Gimenez

 

 Dr Luis Gimenez is a postdoctoral fellow in the Unit of Zimbabwean Studies at Rhodes University. His doctoral and Master’s theses were related to the study of Saharawi music from Western Sahara. He has done ethnomusicological research in six African countries and in Spain, from which he has published several academic articles. At present, he is doing postdoctoral research in Zimbabwe in relation to the revitalisation of Zimbabwean recordings found at the International Library of African Music (ILAM) located at Rhodes. In addition, Luis is a composer of 11 solo albums; and is a music collaborator with numerous World Music artists such as Mariem Hassan, Hope Masike and Ramata Diakite.
