Vuyelwa Happiness Mtolo

My name is Vuyelwa Happiness Mtolo. I am from Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal. I have a BA degree with majors in Journalism and Media Studies and in the English Language and Linguistics. I specialized in radio production in my third year.

I love sports and I have a passion for Sports Journalism. I consider myself a feminist and activist, focusing on issues such as racial prejudices, societal injustices and gender inequalities.

I would like to use my journalism degree and the PDMM qualification to work in the fields mentioned above, so as to make a difference and give ‘people without voices’ a platform to be heard and seen. I would like to break barriers and glass ceilings by working in the so-called male-dominated environments, especially in Sports. I would also very much like to hold governments and elites accountable for their empty promises and poor service delivery in poor and rural communities.

I am genuinely a very happy person and I love to make the people around me smile. I consider myself introverted because I enjoy ‘hanging around’ small groups of people. I am not talkative unless I am with my friends, and I tend to speak only to people I am close with.

I enjoy my own space by myself, with my food, my favorite (film) series, in my bed. Because of my happy nature, I would also like to explore the entertainment field as a presenter, radio worker and as a house DJ. People who know me call me 'Gqom Queen'.

Family means everything to me, my friends are my pillars of strength, and God is my Saviour.
