The USSA Rowing Regatta is one that never disappoints as it always brings with it fast, close racing in difficult weather conditions that challenges even the best of coxes and crews over the 1000m course on Vanderkloof Dam. The Rhodes Men’s and Women’s crew both rose up the challenge and performed terrifically. Rhodes got podium positions in 15 events with both the Men’s and Women’s A8+ placing second and third respectively racing the new Filippi 8+ boat named after Old Rhodian rower Greg Vermaak.

Rhodes placed 4th overall in the points standing showing good improvement from previous years. The novice rowers experiencing their first regatta were thrown into the deep end with dealing with the wind making the water very rough but both the Men and Women still blew other crews out of the water and show enormous potential in the sport. Huge congratulations must be made to Stuart Schady, Carl de Beer and Caryn Reeves for being selected to race in the Grudge crew and Michael Moir for being selected to Cox the prestigious Blues crew that rounds up the two-day regatta. The overall weekend was a great achievement that will hopefully continue at the South African Championships at the end of April.
