A-section promotion for Rhodes U21Date Released: Fri, 3 August 2012 16:43 +0200
The Rhodes University U21 rugby side enjoyed a phenomenal year as they went on to finish top of the Eastern Province Rugby Union (EPRU) Super league U21B section.
The top spot has seen the Rhodes side receive automatic promotion into the U21A section as from the 2013 season.
The Rhodes first team, made up of many U21 players, made a statement at the University Sport South Africa rugby tournament at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg recently. They won two of their three matches and were ranked second in their section. The Rhodes first team will now take part in the second leg of the EP Rugby Union Adams Cup competition.
Rhodes will host Inter-Varsity. The Rhodes U21 side will take on Walter Sisulu University U21s, before the Rhodes firsts take on the Walter Sisulu firsts. Both matches take place on the Saturday at the Great Field.
The Rhodes University rugby sides will be facing St Mark's this weekend for their first games of the term.
The fixtures are part of the new EPRU Sub Union Competition. Rhodes’s first reserves take on St Mark’s at 2.10pm at the Rhodes Great Field and then the firsts will be in action at 3.30pm. The following weekend Rhodes faces Trying Stars, which will be followed by the FNB Eastern Cape InterVaristy tournament between Rhodes, Fort Hare, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan and Walter Sisulu Universities.
