The Hangar at Rhodes University was a hub of activity today (Saturday 18 August), as table tennis teams from four universities fought for dominance in front of a large crowd.
“I’m glad the turn-out was good this year,” said Andre Ah Chow, who played for Rhodes University. “We had students from other universities rock up to support their teams – it was fantastic.”
Each team played three rounds. The NMMU A-side dominated, winning all three of their rounds with a score of 4-0, which put them in first position on the log.
Odwa Mvaba from Fort Hare was the winner of the women’s event, beating WSU in the final. “I enjoyed myself,” said Mvaba, who has only been playing table tennis for two years.
“The game was good, though I struggled. The WSU player was very strong and she moves quite very well,” added Mvaba.
Rhodes and NMMU did not participate, because they don’t have women’s teams.
