The prestigious Mutual and Federal Boat Race event finished on a high note on Saturday (15 September), when the crews from the University of Cape Town (UCT) and the University of Pretoria competed for the coveted prize.
The Men’s A final didn’t disappoint, despite the difficult weather condition, with maximum temperature of 20 degrees and wind speeds of 38-41 km/h.
The day proved to be a victorious rowing day for the Men’s A crew from the University of Pretoria (Tuks). With high tides and sharp corners, Tuks gained a strong lead in the beginning of the race and maintained their lead through the race.
Although UCT pushed to close the 5 meter gap, they came second to the Tuks strong rowing team, making the University of Pretoria the winners of the Mutual and Federal Boat Race.
The race took place at the Kowie River in Port Alfred and hundreds of people descended to the small town to cheer and support various crews.
