Surfing

The Rhodes Surf Club is essentially a social surfing and body boarding club, which welcomes members of any skill level. The club pays attention to teaching those interested in learning to surf and as well as encouraging the enhancement of skills of those already able to surf. Several internal competitions are held to select a Tri-varsity and SA Student Champs team but apart from these, lifts ferry surfers to Port Alfred on a weekly basis. The local break we use in Port Alfred (55km from Grahamstown) produces particularly consistent conditions and those dedicated enough to get there are seldom disappointed. On more of a relaxed and social side but still with high levels of competition the club holds an annual Old Boys Contest. This sees current and old Rhodian surfers challenging each other with their surfing skills. Those in the surf club enjoy many road trips and the atmosphere is always full of enthusiasm and adventure.
