KEY EXPERIENCE

I am currently employed as a researcher within the Institute for Water Research, undertaking environmental water quality research for a variety of research programmes and contracts. I have undertaken fish and aquatic invertebrate biomonitoring for the Buffalo (2004) and Mthatha (2006) River Health Programme surveys, and recently undertook a rapid assessment of the fishes and aquatic invertebrates occurring within the rivers likely to be affected by the N2 Wild Coast Toll Road (2007). I've attended an Ecoclassification training workshop (East London 22-24 August 2006), a workshop on freshwater fish sampling methods (Grahamstown 29 March - 2 April 2007), and am SASS accredited (South African aquatic macroinvertebrate assessment index). In addition to biomonitoring, I have skills in information gathering and report writing, and within the laboratory I'm involved within various aquatic toxicology projects (toxicity testing and biochemical marker assays). I am also leading the Boksburg Lake and Wetland Project, a community project aimed at encouraging integrated water quality management within the Boksburg CBD.
