Pidgin

"Pidgin is a multi-protocol Instant Messaging client that allows you to use all of your IM accounts at once" (Pidgin)

Pidgin works with:

Configure pidgin

• Open Pidgin
• From the 'Buddy List' window, click on 'Tools' and then 'Preferences'

• The 'Preferences' window will be displayed
• Click on the 'Network' tab
• Under the 'Proxy Server' section, change the 'Proxy type:' to 'HTTP'
• Enter 'wwwproxy.ru.ac.za' in the 'Host:' field
• Enter '3128' in the 'Port:' field
• Enter your Rhodes username in the 'Username:' field
• Enter your Rhodes password in the 'Password:' field
• Click 'Close'

To add accounts

• Click on 'Accounts' and then 'Manage'

• The 'Accounts' window will be displayed
• Click on 'Add'

• The 'Add Account' window will be displayed
• To add a Google Talk account
  • Select 'Google Talk' from the 'Protocol:' combo box
  • Enter your Google Talk username in the 'Screen name:' field
  • Enter your Google Talk password in the 'Password:' field
  • Enter a nick name in the 'Local alias:' field
  • Click 'Save'

• To add an MSN account
  • Select 'MSN' from the 'Protocol:' combo box
  • Enter your MSN account name in the 'Screen name:' field
  • Enter your MSN password in the 'Password:' field
  • Enter your nick name in the 'Local alias:' field
  • Click 'Save'
