F-Secure is the University's site-licensed anti-virus software. You're entitled to use it, and get updates for it, free of charge whilst you're on the University's network.
You're prompted to install F-Secure during the sign-up process. If you didn't do this, you can still install it later by downloading it from the Student Networking web page. If you make use of the Rhodes-supplied installer to install F-Secure, there's nothing further you need to do -- it is automatically configured to use Rhodes' network properly.
One important consideration to bear in mind when choosing anti-virus software is that you must keep it up-to-date. In the case of most AV software, this means downloading updates off the Internet. This means that your AV updates will count towards your Internet quota. This isn't the case with F-Secure -- because it is site-licensed to the University, updates come from a central update server (fsecure.ru.ac.za) and therefore don't count towards your quota.
