History
The predecessor to Student Networking was the residence network, or ResNet as it was popularly known. ResNet was a long term project of the Information Technology Division that took almost twelve years to completely realise. In trying to get some perspective on where the University is now in terms of student computing it is worth revisiting the history of that project. Doing so will give some insight into why some things were done the way they were.
The following documents were written whilst ResNet was still current, and are preserved here for historical reasons:
- A brief history of ResNet
- The original motivation for ResNet
- How wardens fitted into ResNet
- ResNet installation schedules for 2004, 1st semester 2005, 2005, 1st semester 2006 & 2006.
