Hi there!
I’m a 3rd year Bachelor of Social Science student whose delighted to be your SRC Environmental Councillor for 2013 and to once again, bring another year of successful Environmental projects and awareness campaigns to this unique University. The ‘Environment’ is more than just the colour green, trees and recycling. Although partly true, it is a platform that encompasses a wide diversity of environmental causes such as: conservation or animal rights. An environmentalist is both theoretical and practical but it starts with our way of thinking. Thinking with our environment in mind helps us to not make selfish or short lived decisions but instead, mindful and considerate ones that contribute to our life-giving system. Environmentalists sometimes disagree but the truth is that there are no causes that are more important than another. The plight of a near instinct animal is equally important to managing water in a water scarce area. Unfortunately, with such little time and so many causes needing attention, I would encourage all of us to adopt a “Think Green” approach for 2013, which means getting involved in environmental affairs in your home - residence or digs - and consider the changes you can make for our environment and essentially our community.
