Community Engagement:

  • RCL first attempt: There were transport complications, so we had to postpone the engagement
  • RCL second attempt: students came and we gave them a tour of campus and had a project management session with them
  • Matric Farewell Dresses handover to Ntsika with Assupol

 

  • I assisted the community engagement councillor in preparing the logistics and program for the engagement

 

Radio Show (Lalelani):

  • Sent voice notes to media councillor on a weekly basis that were used for the SRC radio show.
  • Objective: to give weekly updates to the students on what council members have done in the past week
  • I also went on air with SRC alumni to speak about the SRC elections and SRC inauguration

Gender Based Violence March:

Assisted in the planning of the march on Friday, 27 July

Attended the march on 1 August

Silent Protest:

Attended the gathering in the morning and the vigil in the evening

Shut Down:

Occurred after the death of Khensani  Maseko.

SRC met with management at the admin building to demand for an academic shut down.

On Tuesday, 7 August, an informal memorial was held at the Settler’s Monument.

Purple Thursdays:

14 August: Gave out donuts to students. We asked students to mention a few things that they were grateful for.

21 August: #IAmWoman. We had posters on which students wrote characteristics that they have related to their womanhood.

SRC Elections:

  • Met the candidates at the first general briefing with IEB
  • Attended the inauguration rehearsal
  • Attended the inauguration

Dining Hall visits:

Spent a week going to dining halls during the lunch hour to tell students about SRC elections for 2019.

SRC 2019 Training:

Presented at the SRC Training on topics of Accountability within Student Governance, Orientation Week, and the Great Field Party.

  • Weekly SRC Council Meetings
  • Student Services Council – 20 August 2018
  • Intervarsity Committee Meeting – to discuss intervarsity for 2018, which was postponed due to NMU lack of preparation for the event.
    • The following Saturday I went to Nelson Mandela University for a meeting concerning intervarsity
  • Multilingual Colloquium
  • Two Student Parliament Meetings
    • One general meeting
    • The other to for the SRC constitutional review
  • Student Body Meeting – Constitutional Review

Upcoming Projects:

  • SRC Benefit Concert with Unathi Nkayi – 13/14 September
    • Spent the third term planning and preparing for the event with the src treasurer
    • The document for the spelling bee was sent to the VC and DVC
