Parking on Campus
Dear Students
As Rhodes University has expanded in size over the years, the road system on Campus has become increasingly congested, with a limited amount of parking space available. Unfortunately there will be even more pressure on parking from June this year, when the building of a new Education Building will begin in the Grey St parking lot (near Allan Webb Hall). The site will be accessible to construction staff only, with no through route. After completion, there will only be limited parking for disabled and staff.
Students are reminded that that there are 240 parking bays in the Barratt Car Park (with 24/7 security), within a 10 minute easy walk to most parts of campus. Also note that all restricted areas such as Central Campus and St Peters Campus are open after-hours for staff and students.
Your understanding and patience will be appreciated.

SRC Update
THE PEDRO ISSUE
At the beginning of the year, former SRC Treasurer Mr. Pedro Mzileni had updated his Facebook status with an offensive post implicating the Dean of Students. The SRC released a press statement distancing itself from the status update given its non-affiliation with the Facebook post and by extension, the former councillor. This saw criticism by members of the Student Body and questioned the SRC?s stance regarding forms of discrimination.
The SRC acknowledges the approach used and further extends its apologies to students that felt offended by the statement released.
The SRC wishes to re-affirm its stance fervently against racism and all other forms of discrimination listed under Section 9 of the constitution of the Republic of South Africa.

Lelona Thembakazi Fufu Memorial Prize.
Members of Rhodes University will be aware that Ms Lelona Thembakazi Fufu was murdered while hitching from Port Elizabeth to Grahamstown for her graduation on Thursday 12 April this year. Ms Fufu had come through the Science Foundation Programme to complete a BSc in mathematics and mathematical statistics and in 2011, a joint Honours in mathematics and mathematical statistics. The University has decided that a memorial prize in her name would be an appropriate way to remember her and what she brought to the life of the University and her residence.
The Lelona Thembakazi Fufu Memorial Prize will be awarded annually at Graduation to a student graduating in science with a BSc or BSc (Hons) who has overcome educational hardships to achieve very good results. Preference will be given for a student who has come through the Foundation Programme and who has majored in the mathematical or statistical sciences. SRC Environmental Week - the launch of the Green Hat Revolution
Some of us might wear the hats of sister, student, book-club member and soccer enthusiast. Others might wear the hats of poet, brother and surfer. But there is one further hat that we should all be wearing, and all the time at that. The Green Hat. Regardless of who we are and what we do, we have a duty to ourselves, to others, and to the environment. That is the Green Hat. It should not be difficult for every student to find a Green Hat to fit them, either."

Timetables and Registration - IMPORTANT
Dear students
The lists of timetable allocations and the personal timetable for each of you is available at:
http://www.scifac.ru.ac.za/misc/TimeTable/
It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to go to that website and look up your details for lectures, pracs and tuts, using your student number in a pretty obvious way.
We cannot run this system successfully if there are a great many students who have not yet completed their academic registration - that is to say, have not had their curricula approved and recorded by the Dean.
If you are one of the 300+ students still in that category, PLEASE go to the Dean IMMEDIATELY and get sorted out. You can't do it at Eden grove, and you can't do it through ROSS, and you can't do it by visiting departmental secretaries or lecturers.
Good luck for your studies
Best wishes

The South African part of this tour will see Carl Joshua Ncube performing in a lineup of international acts at venues such as Parkers in Montecasino, Carnival City and Emperors Palace. Carl and his team depart Harare, Zimbabwe on Friday 5 August to prepare for what Carl says is his biggest challenge yet and such a great opportunity.
