SRC: Thanks for your support

Dear Rhodes Students
I would like to, on behalf of the Student Representative Council, thank all the parties involved in making Orientation Week a success. The events were all well attended and enjoyed by everyone.

A big thank you to the O-week helpers, without whom none of this would be possible. Thank you also to my fellow councillors who had a helping hand wherever necessary and to the House-Committee members who played a role in arousing the spirits of the students. A major thanks to Live Music Society and RMR for their support and efforts.

With regards to the Great Field Party, please accept our apology for the difficulty at the gates and for what appeared to be an impractical entry system. The truth of the matter is that the gates would not be opened until we were satisfied that all safety and security regulations were impeccably implemented for the safety of all students. I am completely aware of the frustration and disquietude this engendered, I recognize that we almost failed to alleviate the congestion as per the strategic planning, but take comfort in knowing that it was indeed something unforeseen. With that said, I remember the words of my mother who advised to always 'put it down to experience' and learn from it.

Thank you once again and all the best for the academic year ahead.
