SRC Communiqué to the Student Body
Date Released: Thu, 14 April 2011 09:47 +0200
Dear Students of Rhodes University
On the 25th of February, a theatrical piece was performed at 'Viv's
Variety Show', which offended a few members of the audience due to the
satirical nature of the piece.
As the Representative Body of the Students of Rhodes University, the
SRC approached the Dean of Students Division in order to convey the
concerns of some of the Students of the University, and attempt to
rememdy the situation. Having met with the Dean of Students, Dr Vivian
de Klerk, on several occassions to discuss this matter further, Dr de Klerk has emphasized that no apology is going to be made from the Dean of Students Division regarding the performance showcased at 'Viv's Variety Show'. Dr de Klerk has further stated that should students feel strongly enough that they are more than welcome to take the matter further.
The SRC are in the process of referring this matter to higher levels
of Management within the University. The SRC kindly asks for your
support and patience with regards to this matter which is being
treated with highest priority.
Should any students have any further suggestions, enquiries or
concerns regarding this matter, kindly refer them to Mr Allan Magubane
[SRC President], or any other SRC-member.
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any further
suggestions, enquiries or concerns.
Kind Regards,
Martin Forsyth
