Please take a minute to read this summary of all cases heard by the Proctors at Rhodes during the past 6 months. As you will note, there are
serious consequences for infringing the Students Disciplinary Code.

1st Semester 2012
Finalised Cases
- Charged with two counts of fraud and two counts of theft. Found guilty on all charges. Penalty: permanent exclusion from RU and record
to be endorsed “conduct unsatisfactory”. Penalty subsequently confirmed by Council as required by the Student Disciplinary Code. The student has indicated that he wishes to take the matter on review and the review will commence on 2 August 2012. - Charged with fraud. Acquitted.
- Charged with assault. Found guilty. Penalty: One year exclusion suspended for duration of student’s time at RU plus 75 hours of compulsory service.
- Charged with assault. Found guilty. Penalty: 30 hours of compulsory service.
- Charged with theft. Found guilty. Penalty: 100 hours of compulsory service.
- Charged with uttering offensive remarks. Found guilty. Penalty: 20 hours of compulsory service.
- Charged with uttering offensive remarks and crimen iniuria. Found guilty on both charges.Penalty: 70 hours of compulsory service.
- Charged with uttering offensive remarks and two counts of assault. Found guilty on all charges. Penalty: Two years exclusion suspended
for the duration of student’s time at RU plus 100 hours of compulsory service plus the student to submit to counselling. - Charged with being in possession of unauthorised material during a class test. Found guilty. No penalty handed down.
- Charged with rape. Acquitted.
- Charged with assault. Acquitted.
- Charged with assault. Acquitted.
- Charged with assault with intent to commit grievous bodily harm. Found guilty. Penalty: 3 years exclusion from RU and any credits earned in the student’s absence from RU will not be recognised. Conviction and penalty to be recorded on the student’s
academic record. - Charged with being in possession of crib notes during an examination. Found guilty. Penalty: Exclusion from RU until the 2014
academic year and record to be endorsed “conduct unsatisfactory”. - Charged with failing to obey a lawful instruction. Found guilty. Penalty: 75 hours of compulsory service.
- Charged with failing to obey a lawful instruction. Found guilty. Penalty: 20 hours of compulsory service.
PENDING CASES
- Selling scheduled drugs.
- Causing a disturbance in a local shop premises.
