2013 SRC Resignations
Date Released: Tue, 12 February 2013 13:16 +0200
The Student Representative Council of Rhodes University 2013 regrets to inform you about the resignations of three of our councillors.
Ms Sarah Price Jones is stepping down. She was elected SRC Media Councillor in the year 2012 for the year 2013 and she had this to say;
“I have recently discovered that the Media position conflicts with my capabilities and personality. Although, I love being part of the SRC, I feel that I am doing myself as well as the students a disservice”. She has subsequently resigned.
We as a Council admire the honesty and courage exhibited by her in the latter statement. The Media councillor had a runner up Ms Luluma Qongqo.
We welcome Ms Lulama Qongqo as per the student’s constitution, cited article 3.4.
“3.4.2 In the event that an SRC member has forfeited or has been deprived of his/her place on the SRC:
“3.4.2.1.4 If the runner-up in the vacated constituency is available and willing to take the forfeited place, the SRC shall co- opt the runner-up according to the results of the previous election.”
We wish Ms Sarah Price Jones all the best in her endeavours.
Ms. Khanyisile Phiri as elected SRC Residence Councillor in the year 2012 for the year 2013 has resigned due to a Constitutional conflict, as she is no longer in Residence for the year 2013. The Residence councillor had a runner up Mr Tendai Mapuranga.
We welcome Mr Tendai Mapuranga as per the student’s constitution, cited article 3.4.
Ms. Naledi Pholo also elected SRC Student Benefits and Sponsorships Councillor in the year 2012 for the year 2013 is no longer a student at Rhodes University. She has obtained her undergraduate degree and has already joined the working world. The Student benefits councillor was uncontested as a result she has no runner up to fill the position.
We wish both Ms Phiri and Ms Pholo all the best in their endeavours.
