Terms and Conditions
CONDITIONS WHICH APPLY TO THE USE OF RHODES UNIVERSITY TRANSPORT CONVEYING NEW STUDENTS TO GRAHAMSTOWN
AT THE START OF ORIENTATION WEEK
- It is the responsibility of new students to notify the Transport Office no less than seven days prior to the travel date required of their date and time of arrival at Port Elizabeth Airport/Bus Terminal. Failure to do so may result in transport not being available.
- If a booking is not made but there happens to be an unoccupied seat on a bus at the time, a new student will be required to sign an acknowledgement that transport is being provided on the understanding that an amount of R400.00 will be debited to his or her account at the University. Cash will not be accepted.
- One item of hand luggage and one item of luggage weighing not more than 20kg are permitted.
- Space is available in the transport for normal items of personal luggage such as suitcases, rucksacks, holdalls and the like.
- The University Transport Office will not be responsible for the conveying to Grahamstown of any luggage which has been separately freighted (either by air or by rail) to Port Elizabeth or elsewhere or to collect such luggage from the Railways or other carriers.
- It is not the University’s function or responsibility to arrange customs clearance.
- Transport is provided strictly for the use of bonafide students only. Parents, relatives or friends accompanying students cannot be accommodated on the buses and should make other arrangements to travel from Port Elizabeth to Grahamstown. It should be noted that no animals will be carried.
- Drivers work to instructions from the University authorities and are authorised to reject any request not in accordance with these instructions.
- Students who board any University bus against the instructions of the driver or other University Official, and students who aid or abet such action, may face disciplinary action.
- No alcohol will be allowed on any bus.
- The University reserves the right to refuse entry onto any bus of any student who is inebriated, unruly or is creating a disturbance.
- The University accepts no responsibility of any sort for any delay or any unforeseen breakdown in the transport arrangements.
