Senior Research Associate Professor Raj Patel
Prof Raj Patel is British born American academic, journalist and award-winnign writer. He is best known for his 2008 book Stuffed and Starved: The Hidden Battle for the World Food System. He is a Research Professor Lyndon B Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas, Austin. He is currently a visiting scholar in the Center for African Studies at the University of California at Berkeley, a Fellow at Food First, also known as the Institute of Food and Development Policy, and a Research Associate at the School of Development Studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. He is the author of The Value of Nothing: How to Reclaim Market Society and Redefine Democracy (2010) and Stuffed and Starved: Markets, Power and the Hidden Battle for the World Food System (2007). He has contributed to a range of academic journals - Journal of Peasant Studies, Develpment, Journal of Asian and African Studies and Radical Philosophy to name a few.
Prof Patel is Senior Research Associate at the Unit for the Humanities at the university currently known as Rhodes University (UHURU), South Africa.
