Stephen Adeyemi Folaranmi

Stephen Folárànmí is an artist and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Fine & Applied Arts, Obáfémi Awólówò University Ilé-Ife, Nigeria. His research interests include Yoruba Art Studies, African mural Art, African Architecture and Public Art. His articles have been published in journals, referred conference proceedings and chapters in four books. He is the author of “A Critique of Artistic Illustrations in the Works of Akinwumi Isola.” In Emerging Perspectives on AkinwumiIsola, (African World Press, Inc. New Jersey), Art in the Service of Sango, 2009 (Indiana University Press), and Yoruba Architecture in Culture and Customs of Yoruba, 2017 (Carolina Academic Press, Durham, NC, USA.

Folárànmí has taken part in one solo exhibition, four joint and about 22 group exhibitions in Nigeria, London, USA and Germany. His works have been collected by public institutions and private individuals in Nigeria and overseas. He has also executed and initiated public murals in his university and other public and private spaces in Nigeria. He has also co-curated Faces of the gods, Yorùbá Kings, Priests and Children, A Travelling Exhibition of Photographs by Prof. Ulli Beier at the Institute of Cultural Studies Gallery, Obáfémi Awólowo University, Ilé-Ifè, Nigeria: December 13, 2005, Odo-Otin Grammar School, Okuku Òsun State at the Book Lunch on Oba Moses Oyinlola; December 21-22 Museum of the Institute of African Studies, University of Ìbàdàn, Nigeria, and Ife Art School in Retrospect, 2005. He has attended several conferences in Nigeria and other parts of the world.

Stephen was a recipient of the first Höffmann-Dozentur für Interkulturelle Kompetenz at University of Vechta, Germany for the 2008/2009 session, and a member of several professional associations and societies including Art Council of the African Art Studies- (ACASA), African Literatures Association (ALA), College Art Association (CAA) and Nigerian Field Society (NFS). He is the National Secretary of the Nigerian Field Society, former Public Relations Officer of the Òsun State Chapter of the Society of Nigerian Artists, Editor of Kurio Afrikana and the presently the Chair of The Department of Fine and Applied Arts, Obáfémi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria.
