Brett Mason

Economics Masters Candidate

Office: S30, Second Floor, Life Science Building

BA Ecos (Hons), Rhodes University (2017)

Thesis title: Economic and environmental assessment on Rubus fruticosus

Supervisor: Professor Gavin Fraser Co-supervisor: Dr Grant Martin.

Young, for now, energetic and passionate, Brett is currently studying with the Centre for Biological Control because he believes that the work that is done here is vital to the future of not only South Africa but the globe. ‘Aliens’ in the biological sense is an area that not many of us are fully aware of until it has some sort of impact on us. Cape Town’s current water predicament is fully indicative of that (it has been known for quite some time that invasion of water catchment systems in the Cape has a massive effect on the available water). To surmise: “Don’t try to change the world, find something that you love & do that every day. Do that for the rest of your life, & eventually the world will change.” (Macklemore, Growing up, 2015).
