Immersive Audio

Over the past 7 years, the immersive and distributed audio group has been involved in the conceptualisation and implementation of a distributed immersive audio solution for a range of professional audio devices, such as loudspeakers and mixing consoles. The core theme of the various sub projects is the distribution of the immersive audio processing away from the controlling computer and into the audio devices. This frees up the computer for the generation of sound. Control over the immersive audio processing and the distribution of audio is via a deterministic audio network technology such as Ethernet AVB (Audio Video Bridging). Each audio device manufacturer has their own particular control protocol and processing capability, which leads to a number of interesting projects! The applications are in live sound, installations and Virtual Reality.
