Nicola is a PhD candidate with the CSSR, and is part of a project which is examining alcohol use during pregnancy. Her particular study is entitled "A critical discursive and formative evaluation of an alcohol and pregnancy intervention in the Eastern Cape." This study is formatively evaluating a pilot project in the East London region run by an NGO which aims to reduce alcohol consumption by pregnant women. Foucauldian Discourse Analysis and Conversation Analysis are the analytical tools that are being used, and formative evaluation reports have been provided to the NGO and its funders. Nicola's previous research in the CSSR programme was in the area of sexuality education.
