Born and raised in various cities in India, Yamini did her undergraduate studies in psychology and journalism from Christ University in Bangalore. Her background work experience is in soft-skills training for the BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) industry; designing and running children’s workshops and family events; and conducting the Trinity College Speech and Drama programme for children. She moved to South Africa in 2014 to pursue an honours in psychology.
She is currently a second year masters-by-thesis student. Her research focuses on women’s narratives of the ‘supportability’ of their pregnancy. Using an intra-categorical intersectional framework, the aim is to understand their accounts while locating their pregnancy within the interweaving biological, psychological, social, economic, cultural and political contexts within which they occur.
