PA wins Give 5

Give 5 week is an annual fundraising event by students for students. Give 5 took place from the 3-7 March 2014.

Prince Alfred House baked cupcakes and sold these as well as collecting R5 coins in town. The res raised R2000 rand from these efforts.

The residence was awarded a plasma TV as the winning residence raising over R5000, which is an improvement from the R1 500 raised in 2013. The ladies in Prince Alfred are enthusiastic and willing to take part in community serving projects.

Rhodes University students and staff walked over hot coals in bare feet in order to raise money for the Pocket Money Fund on the evening of 7 March.  PA warden Catherine Deiner took to the coals having raised R3425 for the cause.

The recipient for give5 2014 is once again the Annual Fund Pocket Money Fund which currently assists 150 students with R170 per month.  These students might be on bursaries, but do not have any extra money to help them buy essentials such as deodorant or soap.

Our current students have taken this cause to their hearts and were determined to make a difference this year in helping their fellow Rhodents.

The Alumni Office and give5 committee spent the whole week counting all the money that came in after the campaign and were completely overwhelmed by the rand value that had been collected.

What they were even more proud about, was the fact that every single Residence, including our Oppidans had participated,  making it a 100% contribution from our Rhodes students.
