Biographical details

 

Nhlanhla Mpofu is an Associate Professor in English Language Teaching. She is also a Visiting Professor at University of North Carolina- Wilmington in the USA. Her research attempts to bridge theory and practice in order to use English as a second language in different disciplines in multilingual spaces. Her research focus works to (i) problematise our understanding of English as a Language of Instruction (ELI) in multilingual contexts; (ii) develop new language teaching methodologies that draw from culturally sustaining pedagogy and informed by disciplinary linguistic requirements, and (iii) reorienting second language education research in multilingual education systems.

 

Nhlanhla is a Y NRF-rated scientist and a Fulbright alumna. She is a member of the South African Council on Higher Education (CHE) Accreditation Committee. Nhlanhla is also an Executive member of the South African Academy of Science (SAYAS).  She is an alumna of the Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) initiative with the University of Antwerpen in Belgium and the University of Coventry in the UK. She serves as both a moderator and a reviewer for different grant applications for the South African National Research Foundation (NRF). She also serves on the Editorial Board of a number of journals, and is also the author of many research papers, chapters, news stories and technical reports in local and international publications
