Jon Wilson is a second-year Masters candidate from Port Alfred in the Eastern Cape. He completed his undergraduate degree at Nelson Mandela University before he came to Rhodes to complete my Honours and Masters postgraduate degrees in Literary Studies in English. He was awarded the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation: Urban Connections in African Popular Imaginaries MA scholarship in 2019.

His research examines representations of queer lives in selected Nigerian, Kenyan, and South African literature and film. By examining Queer Africa: New and Collected Fiction (2013), Queer Africa 2: New Stories (2017), Rafiki (2018), and Inxeba (2017) he explores the  various ways queerness is viewed in Africa.
