Dr Daniel Nyanganyura is a professional atmospheric physicist and science manager with extensive experience in Africa, collaborating with various stakeholders, including governments, inter-governmental bodies, the science community, and civil society organisations. He has a strong interest in activities that aim to promote science for development, build transdisciplinary and cross-boundary research capacity building, and foster science networks while bridging the science-policy interface. He holds a PhD in Atmospheric Physics, an MSc in Agricultural Meteorology, and a BSc (4th Year Honours) in Physics from the University of Zimbabwe, as well as a Licentiate Degree in Education specialising in Physics and Astronomy from Pedagogical University Enrique José Varona in Havana, Cuba. He is currently the Director of the Future Earth Africa Hub Leadership Centre hosted by the Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER) at Rhodes University. Previously, he served as the Executive Director of the African Science, Technology and Policy Institute, Regional Director for the International Science Council's Regional Office for Africa, and Programme Specialist for Physics, Mathematics, and Engineering Sciences at the International Council for Science's Regional Office for Africa. He has also worked as an air pollution researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry in Mainz, Germany, a physics lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe, and an Advanced Level Physics and Computer Science teacher.
He is a member of the South African Institute of Physics (2019 - present) and serve/served on the following: Advisory Board of the African Physics Newsletter (2020 - present); International Advisory Committee of the African Light Source (2020 - present); member of the Water Institutes Alliance Task Team (2020 - present); member of the Technical Advisory Board of the first phase of the African Open Science Platform (2017 - 2020); member of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Leading Integrated Research for Agenda 2030 in Africa (2015 - 2021); ex-officio member of the International Science Council Regional Office for Africa (2016 - 2021); ex-officio member of Africa Future Earth Committee (2016 - 202); and member of Future Earth Regional Office for Southern Africa Interim Steering Committee (2019 - 2020).
